Ganbare for Japan, or Ganbare for short, is a community of podcast crews who got together to host an online charity event. Ganbare in Japanese means “Do your best!” So the name of the event is literally, “Do your best for Japan!” The event showcases many different aspects of Japanese culture in an effort to raise money for the victims of the March 11th, 2011 earthquake and Tsunami. The event takes place over Ustream and the audio/video is recorded over skype calls and posted later on iTunes, Zune, and YouTube!
Many of the founders of this event worked on the “Anime Fans Give Back to Japan” event. The event is the same as Ganbare, but more geared towards anime. After AFGBTJ was finished many other podcasts expressed interest in working with the charity. Because of the large amount of different groups involved a second event was made called “Ganbare.”
Ganbare, while it does still have anime related events does not focus entirely on the anime aspect of Japan. Also instead of a 24 hour marathon. The event is split into 2 sixteen hour days, March 10th & 11th. Many artists, conventions, companies, podcasts, and entertainers have agreed to help Ganbare in any way they can. But the most important thing anyone can do is to spread the word and let others know about this event.
